Our History

Our Legend

The 4OxfamWalkers started in 2008 as a bunch of workmates from Eden Technology who wanted to do some bushwalking and recognised the Oxfam Trailwalker Event as an excellent way to get fit with a goal and raise money for a worthy cause at the same time.  Unfortunately we were too slow and missed out in the registration rush of 2008.

With the experience from 2008 behind us we were quick off the mark in 2009 and secured a starting spot in the event that year.  Despite having to change a team member the week before the event for someone with no training, after 36 gruelling hours we made it to the finish - 3 tired and 1 injured - but we finished.  The team of Fred Wright, Tony Phillips, Tony Re and Steve Willis raised a total of $1,800.

2010 saw the training team grow to 5 with the addition of Andrew (AJ) Wise, but with Steve due to become a dad on the event night his time was limited.  We launched a blog and Twitter to try and keep everyone informed of our progress.  We delighted ourselves by completing the 2010 trail in under 27 hours with no injuries while our support team excelled themselves with their food and beverages.  Eden Technology was brought by Siemens IT Solutions and Services and with their fundraising support we raised over $8,500.

2011 saw yet 2 more work mates (Ian McFarlane and Deb Dalziel) join our team, to give us 6 for training with 2 reverting to Support Crew for the event.  On 1 July 2011 our company became part of Atos, a French based company, so we look forward to some fabulous team outfits.  We have again pledged to raise over $5,000.
